Physical Exams and Vaccinations
UW-Parkside strongly encourages students to have a physical exam before going abroad. Please discuss with your health care provider any health issues or concerns. Students are required to review all of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommendations for your destination(s). It is your responsibility to have all vaccinations prior to departure.
Prescriptions
Students who take prescription medicine need to bring a sufficient supply upon departure or consult their physician about the availability of their prescription abroad. Keep all medications in the original bottles to facilitate clearance through customs. Students should pack a copy of all current prescriptions, including eyeglasses. In addition, all prescription medicine should be packed in carry-on luggage in case checked baggage is lost or delayed.
Study Abroad Health Insurance (mandatory)
All students studying abroad through UW-Parkside are required to be enrolled in a pre-approved health and medical evacuation insurance plan. Although many study abroad programs include insurance with their program fees, Parkside study abroad students must be enrolled in our own UW-system insurance plan. The Parkside Study Abroad Office will enroll you in the Cultural Insurance Services International (CISI) health and medical evacuation insurance plan and your student account will be billed accordingly. See CISI Study Abroad Insurance Policy 2022. Study abroad insurance costs approximately $43 per month.
While study abroad insurance is mandatory, students are advised to remain on their U.S. home insurance plan while abroad. Study abroad insurance may not cover follow up expenses needed in the U.S. once the student returns home.
