Program Description:

Sungshin University is a leading private university in Seoul, South Korea. Note: while this is a women’s university, male international exchange students and male graduate students are accepted. The university has 13 colleges, and an enrollment of 13,000 students, including around 300 international students.

Please access the Sungshin International Student Guide here

Exchange students can register for most classes available at Sungshin University, although approximately 50-100 classes per semester are conducted in English. Students wanting to take classes taught in Korean will need to have a high level of proficiency in this language. Exchange students are strongly encouraged to take Korean language classes which are available in all levels.

Sungshin has two campuses connected by a quick shuttle ride between them.  Most UWP students would be taking all of their classes on the Soojung campus which is located in a vibrant neighborhood with immediate walking access to a variety of restaurants, bakeries & local fruit, meat and vegetable markets. There is direct subway and bus connection to Seoul downtown areas.

Both campuses include facilities such as a fitness center, library, bookstores, student lounges, and computer labs.  Numerous on-campus cafeterias serve the university community (no food plans).

The University has secure international student housing for 238 offering double, triple or quadruple units with bathroom available one block from campus.  There are separate buildings for men and women, each with locked entry, security cameras, smoke detectors & sprinkler systems.  The international accommodation also includes washing facilities and student lounges.

There are also a variety of opportunities to learn about Korean culture. Exchange students can participate in cultural activities including a traditional tea ceremony, Korean dance, making bibimbap, and natural dyeing workshop. Each international student is assigned a Sungshin Buddy in order for them to quickly adapt to life in Korea.

With more than 10 million residents, Seoul is home to impressive cultural and historic sites, including numerous palaces, shrines and museums. The cosmopolitan city has much to offer visitors and residents alike.  The US State Department Travel Advisories place South Korea in the safest risk category (Exercise Normal Precautions) of all nations.
